Standing Qigong, also known as Zhan Zhuang (站桩) or “Standing Like a Pine,” is one of the most essential practices in Tai Chi and Wudang internal cultivation.
Dive deep into Standing Qigong — a gateway to unlocking internal energy (Qi), developing inner strength, and returning to the path of body-mind unity.
Although the body appears motionless, profound internal changes occur within. Through correct structural alignment, relaxation, and natural breathing, Standing Qigong helps the body release tension and allows Qi to flow freely.
👉 “Stillness is the root of all movement.”
This practice is the origin of all internal power. Only by establishing a stable, relaxed, and connected structure can one manifest true internal strength and coordination in motion.
In this session, you will learn a sequence that combines dynamic movement with static stillness:
- 起式 – Starting Position
- 开合手 – Opening and Closing Hands
- 转身抱球 – Turn and Hold the Ball
- 按水桩 – Pressing Water
- 云手 – Cloud Hands
- 转身穿掌 – Turn and Pierce Palm
- 收式 – Closing Position
- 混元桩 – Standing Meditation
The history of Standing Qigong dates back over 2,000 years to the Huangdi Neijing, which records standing methods for health and energy cultivation.
It evolved from ancient Daoyin (导引) arts — the method of guiding Qi through posture and intention. Within the Wudang Mountains, Standing Qigong has been preserved as the fundamental root of Tai Chi training.
1. Building Vital Energy: The most direct way to store and cultivate Qi.
2. Structural Alignment: Corrects posture and builds a stable internal structure.
3. Strength from Stillness: Develops deep fascia and tendon strength (Neijin).
4. Mental Calm: Calms the nervous system and improves focus.
