Li Jiawei vs Zhang Yining in

Women Singles Semifinals

Singapore's top paddler Li Jiawei falls to China's World No.1 table tennis player Zhang Yining in the table tennis semi-finals at the Peking University Gymnasium.

Five games were played, with Zhang Yining taking 4 games, to Li Jiawei's one. (9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8, 11-5) 

Zhang has now guaranteed either a gold or silver for China in the Ladies Singles Table Tennis finals when she meets compatriot Wang Nan for the gold medal match.

Li Jiawei will be playing for the bronze medal against China's Guo Yue.

5th game:

10:45am: Zhang Yining takes the game, and match at 11-5. She has now guaranteed a gold and silver for China's ladies singles event.

10:44am: It's match point for Zhang Yining at 10-4, but Jiawei valiantly continues, making it 10-5.

10:44am: Zhang forces Li to make errors, making it a quick 9-4 advantage.

10:41am: Zhang takes an early lead, 4-2.

4th game:

10:39: Zhang takes the game to make it 3 games China, 1 game Singapore.

10:37am: Jiawei recovers, with Zhang's shot going long. A timeout is called.

10:36am: A good rally between the two, but Jiawei's shot goes long, giving game point to Zhang.

10:35am: It's another two point lead for Zhang at 8-6, but her hit goes wide, taking it to 8-7 in favor of Zhang. She recovers quickly, taking the score to 9-7.

10:34am: Zhang had a planned attack, levelling it to 6-6.

10:33am: Jiawei takes a decisive smash, taking the game to 6-5.

10:32am: Zhang's hit goes wide, and Jiawei takes it 4-3.

10:31am: Li takes the first two points, but Zhang hits back with two successive points making it 2-2. But Jiawei puts in another point, making it 3-2.  Another quick point from Zhang makes it 3 all.

3rd game:

10:28am: It's second game point for Yining, and she takes the 2nd game from Li Jiawei.

10:27am: Jiawei continues battling hard, making it 10 all.

10:26am: Jiawei equalises it at 9 all, but it's now game point for Zhang after the ball goes under the table on Jiawei's end.

10:25am: After Jiawei scored, Zhang takes another point to make it 9-7. But Jiawei hits back to make it 9-8.

10:23am: Zhang scored 4 successive points to take the lead, 8-6.

10:20am: Zhang scores early, but Jiawei scores four successive points until Zhang finally squeezes one in. Score is now 6-4.

2nd game: Zhang took an early lead, but Jiawei did well, meeting her at 9-8. But Zhang took the game at 11-8.

1st game: Li Jiawei took the first game of the semifinal match with a score of 11-9.
