The upcoming SEA Games 2009 to be hosted in Laos seemed to trigger off some negative comments from Malaysia with regards to the type of sports to be included into this SEA Games.
KUALA LUMPUR: - Malaysia's Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has labelled the South-east Asia Games a circus.
Incensed that first-time host Laos, who will stage the next edition in December, has dropped Olympic sports such as gymnastics and hockey, but included events such as fin swimming and shuttlecock kicking (capteh), he said the biennial regional sports fest will no longer be a priority for Malaysia.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - With a special training program, elderly people can learn better balance control, which may lessen their risk of falling, according to a new report.
Doctors might be hesitant to recommend balance-training exercises "that can be very challenging for their older clients," Dr. Brian E. Maki told Reuters Health. However, "provided proper safety measures are taken (such as wearing a safety harness), older adults are often willing and able to complete exercises that challenge their balance, such as the perturbation-based program described in our paper."

WITH just 28 weeks till the start of the inaugural Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Singapore, organisers are facing a race to stage the best event possible.
While AYG Singapore 2009 project team co-director Ng Eng Soon gave assurances that the Games will be delivered on time and that preparations are on track, he stressed that expectations of the service standards at the Games should be pegged to that of a regional youth age group standard.

VETERAN MediaCorp actor Chew Chor Meng said on Friday night that he has been diagnosed with a form of muscular atrophy, an incurable disease where a sufferer's muscles waste away.
The 40-year-old told reporters outside his church Renewal Centre in Serangoon that he was diagnosed with spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy, or Kennedy's disease.

The Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation will be holding the annual selection of athletes for the National / National Youth Team in January 2009. The trial is open for Singapore citizen only. Athletes from Singapore Schools Team, top three positions (awarded with medal) of the competitive routine from the National Wushu Competition 2008, and National Schools Competition 2008, will be invited for the trial.
